Bilexa’s jubilee year

Since its foundation in 1969, the Swiss family business has grown into a leading one-stop supplier for ticketing, access management and security systems.

Bilexa AG was founded in Zurich by Hermann Altmann in 1969 and was initially active in the field of ticket sales and validation systems for public transport operators. The company’s name is actually a combination of the Swiss word for a ticket (“billet”) and the equipment brand name Almex. Following the establishment of an Austrian subsidiary in 1970, Bilexa extended its product portfolio and started to supply leisure amenities like swimming pools and winter sports facilities in 1972. As a next logical step, the traditional Swiss company also introduced car parking management systems. Since 1981 Bilexa has developed a growing specialization in the field of security systems, starting with pressure-sensitive mats for switching bus and train doors followed by CCTV systems, which have now developed into a high-volume field of business.

Customer benefits and handshake trust

Since 2009 the family business, with its facilities in Switzerland and Austria, has been successfully managed in the second generation by Simon and Daniel Altmann. For the brothers, tradition and modernity are two sides of the same coin. The two experts study the national and international markets very carefully and react fast and flexibly to new developments – with the backing of long years of experience and their wide-ranging industry competence. The Altmann brothers explain: “In our work we never lose sight of the benefits to the customer in the individual case. Trust based on the traditional handshake is more than a buzzword for us; it is something we live for. It also includes such things as punctuality, a customer focus and the very best product and service.” The company’s main markets are Switzerland, Austria, Italy, France and Slovakia, although Bilexa is currently placing an additional focus on the USA, Eastern Europe and Russia.

Ticket offices for ski resorts

Leading ropeway operators have been relying on Bilexa’s know-how for 50 years now. As a rule, the Swiss family-owned company handles the complete planning and installation of their ticket counters. Currently there is particularly keen demand for the Clarson Public III intercom system with the new microphone and matching cordless headset. That gives ticket office personnel even greater freedom of movement and allows them to concentrate fully on the customer at the counter, while the new microphone serves to improve communication even further. Bilexa AG also has a very wide range of built-in cash drawers and payment turntables, all in the latest versions. The Bilexa cash drawers come in a variety of different models, including a choice between removable or permanent cash boxes and built-in drawers with Pecuna coin inserts and trays for seven different banknotes, etc. The range of payment turntables includes recessed and flat models, turntables with integrated adjustable electrical heating and turntables designed for installation in insulated glass windows (all thicknesses). A credit card module was also recently added to the Bilexa portfolio in the form of a recessed tray for installation next to the turntable.

In addition to lifts and cable cars, Bilexa’s main business areas are public transport, car parks, leisure facilities and public conveniences.

Focus on security

Bilexa AG has been active in the field of security technology since 1981: Under the company's founder, Hermann Altmann, Bilexa equipped large numbers of buses and trams with the familiar Matex pressure-sensitive safety mats for automatic door operation. That was followed by CCTV systems for stationary facilities and vehicles. In the meantime this business area has developed extremely well. Video cameras – in particular the high-grade Axis cameras – are also being used more and more by cable car operators as webcams or for monitoring the ticket counter area.
